Jake Sakson's News from Sweetgrass, Japan

snowing-in-japan

I just woke up and the bus was completely empty. It was still puking -
so nice to see snow on the roads after a warm winter in Colorado.
Although I had tried to stay awake, running around the Japanese
airport with two 50lbs bags, a bus to catch, and a full bladder had
successfully tired me out. Luckily I hadn't missed my stop, and I was
dropped off in a deserted parking lot. No show for the Sweetgrass crew
long enough for me to be grateful that there was a heated indoor area
of the bus stop in case I was spending the night. No worries though, a
minivan rolled up packed full of people - screaming, the trip had
begun.

With Sweetgrass, it's not just about the skier and the line but instead
the beauty of the moment, particular environment and I guess in
general - winter. Makes you feel like you are taking part in something
much greater than a demonstration of your oh so sick nasty skiing
capabilities. This particular trip was subject to pounding rain, wind
and low clouds but it made the few days when the crust was covered and
the snow was blowing in our face that much sweeter. All in all great
trip, Japan is a stunning place, from the towering walls of snow on
either side of the road, the snow-covered trees and the incredible
kindness and generosity of the Japanese people (at least everyone I
met). I think we grossed three days of filming total and I think
captured some cool stuff, here is a couple screen shots from the video
(taken from their site sweetgrassproductions.wordpress.com).

Sounds like a great trip! You should write a book.
