Going south in a good way...

October 5, 2010

There's having a dream and then there's living it! Like all skiers I have dreamed of the endless winter for years and this year it finally came true. Most people hate me for talking about it, but I have been skiing almost every day since August 7. It's a tough life, this whole empirical-snow-research-in-the-southern-hemisphere thing, but gosh darnit, someone's got to do it! I was in Chile working as a ski guide for CASA Tours (another great Flylow affiliate and my dream job) the month of August and part of September and now I am just cruising around skinning and skiing the last of the winter snow in Chile and now, Argentina. The people here have buena onda (good vibes) and the mountains have plenty of nieve to keep the boots stinky and the legs strong. Most resorts are closing in the next 2 weeks, so my crew and I are trying to head as far south as possible to milk the winter for all it's worth.
If you ever make it down here, you have GOT to check out Nevados de Chillan (formerly Termas de Chillan) about 250 km south of Santiago

And of course, take a shot from the shot ski I donated to the Snow Pub in Las Trancas (closest town to Nevados de Chillan). My skis got run over by a semi my 4th day down here (flew off the top of the bus) so I did what any good ski bum would do: party with the broken ski!

Once you move south from Nevados de Chillan, go to Puc
